The United States and Indonesia have reached a historic trade agreement that will eliminate tariffs on over 99% of US goods exported to Indonesia and remove nearly all non-tariff barriers for American businesses.
In return, the US will impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian goods, significantly lower than the previously threatened 32%. The deal also opens Indonesia's critical mineral exports to the US and includes major purchases of US agricultural products and Boeing jets. The agreement is expected to provide at least $50 billion in new market access for US industries, benefiting sectors such as agriculture, technology, and manufacturing.
Both governments hail the deal as a major win, though some implementation details remain under negotiation.
